does baidu include only non-english or Chinese website to their index or baidu is language specific and includes websites from china and other related countries or only tld's with .cn or .hk etc? recently i was just checking whether my webblog appears on all the major search engine and was checking for what keywords do well to my amazement not even a single page of mine was included in Chinese search giant baidu though when i searched for programming and other stuff i can see baidu has indexed some of the english language and website from other countries, so next question is there any way that i can get my site listed in baidu?
though some people said we can submit our website by adding one or two pages with chinese content in our website and then submitting it to baidu here http://www.baidu.com/search/url_submit.html but i just submitted my site URL without any chinese content leaving it to baidu about the inclusion... so here is my chinese request to baidu 百度請包括我在您的搜索結果
any way just now submitted my blog URL to the baidu let see whether my website get indexed because china has 130million potential internet users using baidu so guys if you have a website do check whether your website is appearing in baidu if not submit your url.
did your DVD drive stopped reading DVD's all of a sudden but reading cd's normally here is the solution? recently my sony DVD writer AW-Q170A stopped reading DVD's which it burned though same DVD's worked and was able to read in different computers i was really baffled why DVD writer was not able to read the DVD which was written by itself and another weird thing is my DVD burner was reading DVD-ROMS and other Movie DVD's but was not reading DVD's burned by itself and other computers?
When i googled for the solution i was amazed to see that i am not alone and there are tons of people with the same issue each one of them discussing possible solution but none of them seems to work so after 5 days of frustration i was able to figure it out what was the problem see below things i tried
first of all when i googled i came to know below are some of the situations that might cause this issue
--> Few said laser is dead or dirty lens and suggest to clean the lens --> Some said its the problem with upper and lower filter in the system so editing registry might solve the issue --> Some said windows updates might cause this kind of issues --> and many said its due to service pack 3 problem --> and very few were talking about frimware updates.
First i thought it was the problem with some windows update so i formatted my system and installed a fresh copy of XP with service pack3, but issue remained the same next i thought this might be due to service pack3 and formatted the system again and installed with a fresh copy of windows with service pack2 but the issue remained the same then i thought it might be the actual problem with dvd burner itself, so as the last try i tried to update the frimware i googled for sony dvd drive frimware updates i got the frimware for my dvd burner in their site www.sony-optiarc.us i found the frimware updates for my dvd burner model downloaded it prayed before running and restarted the system atlast my DVD writer was normal again reading dvds normally.
thanks for the guys on the web who hinted me about this, and between if anyone of you reading this facing the same problem and want to upgrade the frimware be warned not update the frimware if you are not the professional because incorrect version of frimware update might permanently damage your DVD burner making it worthless.
forwarding SMS or text messages in android is easy but very tricky at-least for beginners because forwarding SMS is not straight forward option like other phones because you cannot see Forward option in Menus so how to forward the SMS in android ? this was the question asked by my colleague who is in testing team though i first laughed at him when i try to find the option i was baffled for a moment because being application developer for android mobiles for almost 9 months i was not able to find it but after playing it with for few minutes i came to know were the "FORWARD" bugger lies, so i thought it to share with you guys so that it might be very helpful if any one comes across same scenario.
below is the SMS window that i want to forward to forward text messages or SMS from android phones just select SMS as shown in above pic and hold on the text area for few seconds then a pop up menu will appear with the forward option as shown in below pic this is just that simple if you found this article please feel free to leave comments or subscribe to the newsletter by submitting your email id in above link.
Recently my Fox Mail stopped working i was unable to receive or send emails though re-installation did not helped this was the first time i ever got this error after i started using Fox Mail from 3.5 years back, i thought whether something was problem with my operating system then i tried to configure my company account with pop settings the fox-mail worked flawlessly then i came to know that there is something with gmail and foxmail client then i started searching in the google groups in hope of finding answers.
at-last i came to know the answer in one of the google group community since foxmail 5 was released in 1997 by the original author of foxmail since it supports only deprecated SSLv2 and has not updated with latest version of pop protocols either we have to use tunneling proxy program or use Foxmail 6.5 the latest version which is now owned by tencent(foxmail.cn) but fortunately the email client is still free for anyone and can be downloaded at http://fox.foxmail.com.cn/ it comes with great features compared to its predecessor such as IMAP support, themes and many more.
so bottom line Foxmail 5 is dead and cannot be used with much secured gmail just download foxmail 6.5 from http://fox.foxmail.com.cn/ install it close the application go to the (program files)installation folder delete CHINESE.lgb restart the application if you do not delete the chinses.lgb application will be completely in chinese.
recently i wanted a snapshot / image of my website mail inbox for some post on themes but i did not want my email senders name or subject headers to visible to my readers then after a searching for while i did not find any tools to do the blurring job all i got was tutorials on how to blur the image or picture using photo shop and some other online free web tools, after a quick look at my software archives one "exe" caught my attention that is free open source alternative to photo-shop "GIMP" software which i long downloaded but never had a time to install and give it a shot and after playing with it for a while i was amazed to see that it had all the necessary tools for my blogging photo editing needs all in 30megs software compared to 2gigs photo shop below is the picture of my inbox mail headers blurred using the "GIMP" software.
before using GIMP i was using Microsoft photo editor to blur the images but MSphoto editor was obsolete, time confusing and end output looks very much shabby for the job so now my new alternative is GIMP Click on below picture to enlarge
so whats more you can do with gimp? you can do hell loads of thing using gimp by applying gradients designing your own custom themes and even creating you own avatar? below is the picture of George w Bush pope style though ;) which i cartoonized with one step using GIMP you can create awesome avatars using GIMP by applying various filters available in the application.
though GIMP serves most of the image editing needs but i definitely say it cannot replace photoshop if you are very much professional but if your needs are less just for blogging and simple photo editing "GIMP" is more than enough just Google for "GIMP" if you want to download the software it is less than 30megs, if you guys know any cool free photo editing softwares do mention it here.
Firefox refuses to browse the web pages did i just found a bug? recently after 30 minutes of idle when i tried to open a web-page i was amazed to see that Firefox was not able to load web pages thought when i tried with the internet explorer it was working fine and this is the first time i faced this issue.
after R&D i came to know that some times firefox by default checks to see if the network is available if for some reason it sense the network is not available it automatically goes to offline mode once in offline mode you cannot browse the web pages until you uncheck it by going to files-->Work offline and un check it, though i don't know why Firefox kept this annoying feature which automatically enables itself in some rare occasions though i restarted and it got fixed i learn't that there is no need to restart just un checking it by going to files-->work offline does the trick.
how to walk or run on water? this is the question you would have asked yourself at-least once in a life time and is the century old dream and you may think only yogis or magicians can do such a feat but here are bunch of dudes who shows positive thinking and constant try to achieve the goal could work miracles on things once we thought miracle and unachievable see below clip though for instance it looks like a marketing video of hi-tec i am still confused whether below video is fake or real?
what ever it is what do you guys think? is it just a viral video to promote the products?
Today Most of the people in the world uses Gmail than any other mail such as "yahoo or hotmail" because of its simplicity, spam free, corporate like features and elegant un-bloated design and with Google apps anyone with domain can get free 200+ free custom email ids hosted by Google with all the goodness that is available on gmail, but many don't know there is a awesome cool feature called "LABELS" with NESTED LABEL Lab upgrade with which large number of emails can be organized beautifully in a hierarchical way without any Hazel or complication.
I am using google apps standard (free) to host email ids of my website/domain (ceveni.com) and my primary email id was so much filled in that it became a pain to browse through the mails specific related to friends or blogging and of other category then i accidentally came across labels a feature that was long ignored by me, this came handy in organizing my emails efficiently...
so what are labels and what are its features? labels are more or less like folders but gives an extra advantage of adding more than one category to the individual mail where as in folders each mail is totally added to individual folder.. whats more now label comes with a extra LAB feature as nesting “Nested Labels" just go to GMAIL LABs enable this feature and click save now you will be able to add the child labels to existing hierarchy using slash(/) for example if you have a label with name "Blogging" you can add a child label say "Documents" and "Videos" as shown below
similarly you can create a work label under which you can create other labels such as teamA, teamB etc if you manage multiple teams etc etc... to know more about labels and filter see the below video
and between if any one of you are using gmail Label feature do let us know how effective it is and is it really serving your purpose
how to embed, Include or export fonts in Microsoft word to distribute or print the document on other computer? this was the question that baffled me when i created a word document for printing some data because the printer was not available in the home because the majority of the document used the fonts that was downloaded from the net and does not contains by default in other machines i got the doubt whether these special fonts will automatically get converted to default "times new roman" in other machines then after googling for a while i came to know on how to export the fonts with word document so that there is no need to install it on the other machines retaining the originality of the document as it is.
below is the steps to embed or export your fonts inside the word document: --> Open the word file -->click on tools-->options
now in options window click on save tab and you can see the options something like below
--> make sure to check the "Embed true type fonts" is selected in above picture and if you are using small number of characters in a particular font check the "Embed only characters used"
Note that the size of the document will automatically gets increased depending on the number of fonts used and now above setting should allow you to share the documents with multiple fonts without any hassle, please comment if it does not work or if you know still better way to do it.
many don't know a new firefox feature that allow user to select simple to use themes also known as persona which is easier to set than normal themes it is available as an extension if your are using older version of firefox but comes as built in in mozilla firefox 3.6 though the persona is different from the themes in the fact that persona does not alter or change the shapes, size of the tool bar, buttons or other controls like regular plugin themes, whats more persona is one click theme change feature which does not require a installation or annoying firefox restart compared to regular themes over all persona is a simple, light weight and easy to create with more than 35000 personas available on the getPersonas.com website.
below is the persona theme applied on my mozilla firefox chrome theme you can see the basic framework of the chrome theme remains the same where as only the skin of the theme changes which is very useful if people wants to retain the present control looks but want to change only the skins.
you can download the plugin from here if you are using older version of mozilla firefox, you can add new themes from 35000+ personas to choose from the home page
i just installed the themes and really impressed on the speed and ease how the themes are switched do try it you will really like it, and btw tell us which is your favorite persona?
one of the happening things in scientific world is the long awaited LARGE HADRON COLLIDER experiment a high energy particle accelerator by which it is said to mimic a microscopic bing bang explosion inside the LHC and to study and unveil the secrets on how the our universe was created, it is said that The world’s physicists have spent 14 years and $8 billion building the Large Hadron Collider but when the project first started with its initial preparation plan people started telling and creating buzz about the black hole in the LHC particle collision will destroy the earth.
but recently conspiracy theorists and some whistle blowers have totally different story to say it is said that the LHC is indeed a covert experiment for time travel and to create a worm hole for time travellers a shortcut between two positions in space and time and many conspiracy theorist now attribute recent norway spirals as the worm holes created by the experiments of LHC
what ever it is below video shows the working of the LHC and second shows the conspiracy theory releated with it
though i don't believe in these kind of things but some times the reasons to believe are so overwhelming so what do you think?
how to get back the old post editor in blogger this was the question that was baffling me after the recent amazon associate integration with my blogger blog and after a brief R&D in my blogger dashboard i was able to figure it out and revert back though the new post editor was launched almost a year ago it was not enforced on current users but after the amazon associate integration it was automatically changed though blogger claims it is an improved than the previous editor it comes with the set of cons and pros.
below is the old blogger post editor tool strip
below is the new post editor you can see the video upload icon is missing
below pics shows the image uploader old editor you can see that we can upload 5 images at a time below is the image up loader of new editor here we have to upload each image files individually
it is clear that old post editor in blogger is very much better than new editor in terms of usability and ease at which we can customize and align the posts and old editor we can easily re-size the image in the post compose area itself, so how to revert back?
just go to dashboard->settings->global settings->select post editor select the option old editor as shown in below picture that's it now again go back to dashboard and edit/new post you can see the old post editor would have been reverted back.

whos.amung.us is a free service that enables webmaster or bloggers to monitor visitors in real time but one thing annoying in this service is secrecy or openess on who can access the information, but in this case any one can see your visitors location, peak traffic, low traffic and many details though some bloggers and web admins do not care at the beginning privacy becomes a major concerns in the long run when blog or website becomes famous because most web masters and bloggers dont want to share the vital information about traffic stats.
though we can hide the widget by resizing the image by changing the script so that others cannot see that you are using the amung.us in your website or blog below is the original script
now that you have hidden or made widget invisible for others you can view your stats by opening it in the browser by using below URL and keycode
http://whos.amung.us/stats/YOUR KEY CODE
though by following above procedure normal visitors cannot see your blog or website stats but other bloggers and tech geeks can easily see your stat by right clicking on your webpage-->"view source" and finding the string 'amung' widget and copying and pasting your keycode in the browser as said in the last step.
so this is the reason is stopped using amungus stats in my website because few people were pinging and asking me if there was large variations instead i am using google analytics and sitemeter because it supports far more privacy and is password protected than amungus so guys at amungus start thinking about it else people might stop using your widget.
Are you out of space in gmail and inbox size is growing like a mountain? then here is a quick tip on how to search and delete all the unwanted heavy files, recently i saw that my gmail space was already 78% full as i rarely log into gmail web as i use gmail imap along with outlook express and it was expected as i am using my gmail account from almost 5years from now and it is one of my primary email id so i thought of clearing all the unwanted heavy forwards with attachments and videos so below is the simple method i used to free the space.
gmail gives you a luxury of retrieving any mails with specific attachments by using simple queries and to list the mail headers which satisfy the condition so to search and delete all the audio and video files you can submit the below query in the search bar in your gmail
the query is simple and human understandable just add the extension *.mpeg or any other format extension if you have received those kind of files in your mailbox
to find and delete large documents and spreadsheets or any other files such as visio docs etc use below query
Most of the time pdf, ppt and docs consumes most of our mailbox space
similarly to delete all the compressed or zipped attachments use below query has:attachment (*.zip || *.rar || *.7z )
you can even add .cab, .iso etc to the above query according to your needs
now after applying the filter and searching you can easily delete the unwanted mail from your inbox note after deleting the mails make sure to empty the thrash to get back the space as gmail keeps deleted mails in the thrash for certain period of time to recover in case if we want it back
my old cellphone display is not day light readable that is screen is extremely difficult to see in broad daylight so i decided to buy a new phone which has a visibility in daylight though i thought simple googling will give me the answer on which cell phone to buy but then i came to know that there is no much information about on this matter.
and after a long hard search on the net i came to know that Blackberry, iPhone, and some nokia E series have a daylight or sunlight readable screens and most of them say motorola and lg are the phones to be away if you are looking for visible screens.
what i am looking in the new phone is 3.2MP t o 8MP camera, excellent audio, 3G, wifi nice keypad, slim and thin body and good battery life and of course sunlight reflective screen i dont want to again endup covering my hand in the sunlight to read the content on the screen if any one of you know such phone do suggest me some good phones.
recently Aircel launched a first of its kind email device in India to enhance email experience on the move, what special about this device is its a email only low cost device priced at 2999 INR and it is said to be available in all Aircel stores, croma, ezone and few other stores. coming to my personal review based on my experience in email's and based on the features of peek has to offer, peek comes in two flavors peek and peek pronto but in india aircel is offering only peek, peek is said to:
Peek features --> support multiple(three) email accounts --> easy to setup interface --> supports push email that is you get emails as and when you get it that is on the fly, --> peek as the the ability to view attachments (pdf, word, excel, pictures etc) --> supports features such as Security lock, Airplane mode, themes, sounds and alerts --> Ability to download contacts --> Can search inbox for mails --> Remarkable battery life 3-5 days( from various sources)
now coming to look and feel of the device --> Large Screen --> Peek is slim, thin and ligt weight --> QWERTY Keypad --> Side Scroller Wheel to scroll the mail headers and menu up and down --> a back button on side of the device --> Nice Email indicator on top of the screen to for alert new emails
below is the video on overall first hand review on peek which gives a nice overall view on this email device
the aircel peek plans is as below: Prepaid: unlimited email service for first 90 days at the price tag of 897 rs and subsequent plans are rs 89 for 7days and 299 for 30 days.
Postpaid: similar to prepaid rs 897 for first 90 days for unlimited email service and monthly rental of 299.
and my take on the peek being a email application developer for more than 3 years, though peek says what it does it has the some of the cons on its side being a non touch interface device it is very pain to browse view and compose email using the scroll wheel and button but this will be a good device for less tech savvy people such as grandpa's, doctors who access emails once in a while and other major cons of it is its inability to make voice calls without it people always carry two devices one for emailing and one for voice calls, what ever it is lets see how Indian people goes with peek?
one of the most common problem bitdefender user face is uninstalling the bitdefender internet security suite is some times daunting task, this is most common trouble shoot people are facing from past many releases no doubt bit defender is one of the antivirus i trust along with kaspersky and nod32 but the uninstallation process is the only negative remark on it.
recently when my kaspersky licence expired i installed bitdefender internet security suite trial version for time being but when i tried to uninstall the same it didn't work the computer just freezed and setup did not end just went into something like infinite loop here is the simple way on how to uninstall if the conventional methods such as removal through add/remove program and setup fails.
--> Click on the the removal tool, wait for the un-installation procedure to end successfully once done restart the system
Now this should 100% remove the application from your system most of the time this should do the task, if even this does not work download the third party uninstaller such as revo uninstaller uninstall the application if everything fails contact bitdefender support for further assistance.
did you want to retrieve or undelete the webpage you accidentally deleted or want to read the content of the webpage that no longer exists ? many times you would have come across a situation where you need some information very badly but the webpage you are trying to open is throwing 404 error that is webpage is removed or moved to different location or temporarily unavailable, during these situation you can still get back your deleted posts or information you are trying to access by reading the search engine cache all the major search engine keeps the cache of the webpage in one of its server you can just view the cache to get back your deleted page or information you wanted.
recently while editing one of the old post i accidentally deleted it as there is now way in blogger to get back once you delete the post luckily i was able to retrieve the content of the post from the google cache below are some of the ways to retrieve it.
Retrieving via search engine cache: all the major search engines such as Google, Live and yahoo will cache most of the pages of your website and google is so fast it can can cache your pages within few minutes or few hours, to retrieve the cache of the page just type the query or keyword such that you can see it the search result or just query for google cache using site:yourwebsite.com in the google search box and click on the "cached" link as shown in below pic.
with the above method there is few cons, you can recover deleted page if it is not yet published or only few hours old and other thing is google automatically dump the cache after few months if the finds page is no more available or removed
Way Back Machine: If you are not able to find the webpage in any of the search engine cache then you can try to search the webpage in the internet archive portal called wayback machine which is said to hold the snap shot of several billion webpages though the wayback machine archive available only for webpages more than year old and anything less than that you cannot find there.
http://web.archive.org/web/
Warrick Web tool: Warrick is a webtool created by frank mccown at Old Dominion University that helps you reconstruct any lost website or singlepage just type the URL of the website warrick will send you the mail once the recovery process is completed it may take few days to weeks depending on the size of the website as the internet archieve repository will be varying every now and then if first attempt fails to retrieve your website you can try again after 6 or 12 months.

Firefox Cache and Rss feeds: there is a chance of recovering your web page from the firefox cache though this method is really whacky you can still try this method if all else fails provided you do not clear your firefox cache manually often here is the detailed instructions on how to do it.
and if you are using feedburner in your site then chances are you can get back your post by browsing the older feeds and recover individual posts though these are the possible ways i think would help you in getting back your blog post, if you know any other tools, methods or hacks to get back the webpage share with us... and best thing to get out of all the above hassle and get back your lost post in swift is by backing up your blog every now and then so that you will be always on safer side from accidentally deletion, hackers etc.
recently one of my friend was unable to receive offline messages on gtalk that i left last night, gtalk has a feature to send the text messages for your gtalk friends even if they are offline the text message pops up once they are online next time a feature similar to yahoo messenger unlike yahoo where messages will be popped up only he or she logs into the yahoo messenger but in case of gtalk google has integrated chat with gmail so tightly user can directly see the message as unread mail in their inbox.
Now few minutes playing with the gmail and gtalk settings we came to know that "enable chat history" was accidentally disabled so to get offline messages "enable chat history" options should always be enabled as shown in below pic.
so next time if you are not able to get the offline messages on gtalk make sure to enable your chat history.
