What is CTC and How it is Calculated

CTC abbreviated as "Cost to Company"!!! what comes under CTC ? what are the guidelines to compute CTC ? these are the questions which comes to mind of the person who is searching for the job or new to the work it is the latest trend of companies to offer the package/payment to the employees "CTC" is a word that almost all software engineers use regularly!!

So how CTC is calculated? what comes under CTC this was the questions that baffled me recently!!!many companies has their own way of calculating the CTC below are the list of CTC items that are

covered my most of the Good organization

  • Gross Salary
  • Providend fund
  • ESI
  • Leaves
  • Insurance
  • Gratuity
  • LTA
  • Bonus

and some of the other items covered under CTC which are optional are

  • Canteen
  • Food Vouchers
  • Transport
  • Seating area(Real estate)
  • Incentives
  • Stationery cost
  • Training Cost
  • Employee Learning Period where company has to pay salary while he start learning to be productive

  • CTC = GROSS(BASIC + HRA + SPL ALLOWANCE + CONV +ETC) + any additions

  • Take Home = GROSS - PF,ESI,PT

Though there is no exact standard how some companies calculate the CTC it depends on individual company and employee if any HR or PM is reading it please do leave a comment

September 10th Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be officially switched on

Many of them are eagerly awaiting for september 1oth and count down has already begun as CERN already announced the date to switch on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) the most sophisticated particle accelerator and injecting the first circulation of accelerated particles. Actual experiments involving collisions will occur once scientists are satisfied the LHC is fully optimized and calibration is complete. The LHC has been undergoing "cool-down" for some time, ensuring the LHC's eight sectors are approaching the 1.9K (-271°C) operational temperature (that is 1.9 degrees above absolute zero). All going well, on September 10th, the first beam will be accelerated to an energy of 450 GeV (0.45 TeV), the preliminary step on the path to attaining particle energies of 5 TeV........

Guys what do you think about this multi billion dollar and multi national project would it be a success would it bring chaos as they are many who say LHC creates a black whole which destroys the earth ;) so if it is true end of days may be preponed from 2012 to 2008 :)

Memory Backup Software from IBM called Pensieve is it really required ?

IBM is developing a new software called Pensieve, which may act as a long term backup solution for your brain by collecting the bits and pieces of information such as sounds, photos videos etc from your normal cell phone, GPS Systems and other electronic gadgets syncing it to your system and the special software developed by the IBM will later store the information thus collected in an organized way for later retrieval just see the clip below by IBM....

the lead researcher Dr.Yaakov Navon says “Our daily routines are overflowing with situations where we gain new information through meetings, advertisements, conferences, events, surfing the web, or even window shopping. Instead of going home and using a general web search to find that information, Pensieve helps the brain recall those everyday things you might normally forget,”

Is this an example of another heights of humans depending on modern technology? will this make any affect on human memory in long term do leave a comment guys!!!

Scientists Develops Painless Needle no more Pain while taking injections

How if pain of taking injection is not more than the mosquito bite? yes it is true a team of Indian and Japanese scientists have created a painless "Microneedle" that Mimics the way a female mosquito sucks the blood....

Kazuyoshi Tsuchiya of Tokai University in Kanagawa and Suman Chakraborty of the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur says that these new bio compatible micro needles can be used to inject medicines and take blood samples from patients...

Researchers say that their Micro needle has a micro electromechanical pump to create suction, which works using a piezoelectric actuator attached to the needle and it is based on the principle of female mosquito where it extracts blood by flexing and relaxing some muscles its proboscis, which creates suction and extract blood into its mouth...

the inner diametere of Micro needle is 25microns and external diameter is 60 microns which corresponds to mosquito mouth part because of such as small size it makes it painless and it is said that the needle is strong enough to penetrate about 3mm into skin and reach blood vessels and the needle is made up of titanium and some related alloys.

if this needle come out it would be a real boon for diabetic patients and some patients who needs to take drugs as injections more frequently. though the team is very much interested in commercializing the needle still they have left with challenges to overcome such as scaling and fabrication.

will eating Watermelon to boost your sex life?

Is Watermelon a safe alternate to Viagra ? Watermelon May Have Viagra-effect according to Dr Bhimu Patil director of Texas A&M's said “The more we study watermelons, the more we realize just how amazing a fruit it is in providing natural enhancers to the human body,”

watermelon contains lycopene.beta carotene and hyto-nutrients citrulline which has the ability to relax blood vessels much like viagra does. Patil also said when water melon is consumed citruline is converted to arginine through certain enzymes and argenine an amino acid that works wonders on the heart and circulation system and maintains a good immunine system.
Arginine also helps urea cycle by removing toxic compounds and ammonia from the body and it is also said that deep red watermelon can replace tomato as the lycopene king and 92 % of watermelon consist of water and remaining 8% is loaded with lycopene an antioxidant which protects skin prostate health and heart.

source:science daily
Lycopene is found in tomatoes,it is also found in red grapes but historically it was thought it could exist only in tomatoes... guys do eat a big red watermelons this season and do comment your experience on this natural Viagra

Brain Wave Binoculars under development by military

Brain Controlled Binoculars? yes US military is upgrading its Binoculars and has awarded the contract worth $6.7 million to "DARPA" De fence Advanced Research Project Agency to develop the intelligent binoculars that would help detect threats and enemy targets miles away.
The defense contractors say electrodes placed in the user scalp record brain activity in attempt to use the cranium's unrivaled ability to spot the patterns With time, the binoculars can learn to identify objects that would normally pique the user's interest and direct them towards it. The binoculars are supposed to help soldiers out in the field by pointing out tanks or enemy combatants that they may have seen, but not noticed.

paul haster an associate professor and team member of the project described technology as an ex of neuromorphic engineering that uses hardware and software to emulate human intelligence and said that the visual device that is to be built will have such a low level visual processing that is similar to our natural eyes but with a wider space and can detect something interesting a present you with the picture where our brain says, 'It may be something.' But it might not realize that it is something that should rise to the conscious level.

Though i thought this kinda device would have been already operational and may be classfied any way my predicitons are incorrect and guys what do you think is this could be the beginning of interfacing humans and electronics and you can also see recently a chimp was made to eat with the mechanical hands any way guys do comment your views.

Phoenix Mars Mission Video

Nasa has safely landed its Pheonix Mars Lander on the marsian soil recently and pheonix sent the pictures of the martian surface and horizon... the robot is sheduled to spend next three months digging and searching for life on mars the lander team sent commands for moving arms on tuesday morning to NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter for relay to Phoenix. However, the orbiter did not relay those commands to the lander, so arm movement and other activities are now planned for Wednesday. scientists also hoping that phoenix can help determine whether it the mars can be inhabitated by analyzing the properties of soil such as pH and saltiness... below video shows the landing of the pheonix which is computer generated...

guys do you think the people at nasa do reveal all the information sent by these probes and landers?

Yves Rossy Rocket Man flies 8200 feet

The man with the wings Yves Rossy the rocket man has taken to the skies swooping and diving above the mountains of bex in west switzerland and flewed at 8200ft for more than 5mins with his 8th feet jet powered wings on his back strapped tight it took four years of work to get his wings on air and the dreams to come true.

the former swiss fighter pilot was taken up in the skies by a light aircraft and dived out of the plane like a normal parachute diver and just after few seconds of diving he ignites his four small jets attached to the carbon composite wings and soared in the skies with his stick gliding in the air with the speed of 186mph and performing 360 degree roll.

this remembers of a high school story of a greek mythology Icaraus the man who flewed close to the sun with his wax binded feather wings. "the flight was excellent" Yves Rossy If I turn to the left, I fly left. If I nudge to the right, I go right."

Yves Rossy also has bigger plans to fly across the channels. lets see how it goes with him.

Microwave to drill rocks?

microwave drill to bore hard "rocks" Now Microwave which was once used to cook food and grill the chicken will be used to cook rocks beneath the soil so that speed of drilling the ground could drastically increase.....

drilling through the soft ground is very easy and once we reach a hard rock such as basalt or granite drilling speed dramatically decreases because slow cutting speed of the increased rate at which drill bit wears out....

One way to speed up drilling would be to heat up the rock ahead, causing it to crack. Engineers have attempted to do this using gas jets, lasers and even electric heaters, but with little success, says Jacques Ouelett, a mining engineer at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Instead, he suggests fitting a drilling head with a low energy microwave generator to heat rock just ahead of the drill bit. This fractures the rock efficiently making it much easier to cut and reduces the wear on the drill bit.

Robots in Israeli Military

Robot soldier joins Israeli Military.... Guardium, an unmanned ground military vehicle from the Israeli military is essentially a robotic soldier,it would be the first in the world.... it can replace soldires in dangerous situation down the casualty rate drastically...

Like the pilotless arieal vehicle of United States "Drone" the Guardium can be controlled that can be far from the frontline.... It can be mounted with cameras, night-vision equipment and sensors, as well as more lethal tools such as machine guns.It can navigate through the city with its preprogrammed path.... the vehicle is stuffed with the intelligence to know how to deal with traffic, road signs and markings, and borders and camera can rotate and scan full 360 degrees and alarm operator if it spots something fishy.

Like its human counterpart Guardium never mentally wander or sleeps who have been known to do during mind-numbung gaurd or patrol missions..."Representatives of armies with troops who are taking high casualties in asymmetric warfare, from threats like roadside bombs, get excited about this product," said Erez Peled, general manager of G-Nius Unmanned Ground Systems, the company that developed the robot.

the controls of guardium includes two large screens and the joystick and operator can take control of steering, accelator and brake pedals and any one who played Playstation can learn within a few minutes....

the overall cost of the hardware and software of guardium exceeds Several Million Dollar USD and depends on equpments and gadgets installed on the guardium....

John Pike, director of virginia military said there is similar robot in sout korea to patrol the demilitarised zone with north korea.... since korean vehicle is classified it is hard to say which is most advanced, Pike said.

What are Nano Satellites? are nano satellite are the future?

Nano satellites are the future experts says? Nano Satellite term used for satellites which weigh 10kgs or less.... in recent years though the interest in advanced microsat technology is increasing these micro/nanosat are not new these kinda satellite were launched way back in 90's These satellites are cubical in shape and measure less than 150mm on each side...

NanoSatellites are very useful for many educational institutions and universites to get involved in space as these type of satellite are feasible to create and most importantly affordable to design... with nanotechnology we can fabricate entire satellite subsytem to a single chip.

Israel.

in 2004 a group of young space engineers and scientists from leading companies and universities in Israel, started studying nano-satellites constellations and applications. INSA - the Israeli Nano Satellite Assocoiation was founded in 2006 by this group.

INSA's mission is to promote the usage of nano-satellites in Israel for various academic and commercial purposes. INSA is also dedicated to promoting space education, technology and science awareness throughout Israel by leading civil Nanosatellites projects.

INASA aspires to be involved in every nano-satellite project in Israel.

India.

India recently launched nine nano satellites "Buoyed by Monday's PSLV launch, space experts have said that in the coming years an increasing number of nano satellites will be launched as they are guided by the slogan "faster, better, smaller and cheaper".This (nano satellite) could inspire and encourage youngsters to look for a career in the space sector," said an ISRO official.

USA.

NASA Ames Research Center plans to work with M2mi Corp. to develop small satellites to power telecommunications and networks in space. The plan to build "nanosats" will help with the commercialization of space, NASA said.

some questions come to mind is what would be the average life of nanosatellites? some say it would last some where between 1-3 years!! and what would be the limitations of these satellites? and if the nanosatellite is a success then you could see the cell phones turning into satellite phones in near future....

Lip Reading Computer

Lip Reading Technology Recently researchers from the University of East Anglia's (UEA's) School of Computing Sciences and Surrey University developed a computer so called Lip Reading Computer t is hoped the research will be used to develop a system for the deaf to dictate commands to computers in noisy environments.

Software to track face and lip movements has already been developed, and the team is now working on building a library of videos in order to create a database of facial expressions and lip movements used for each letter combination.

Computer-based lip-reading technology would help video surveillance systems spot people planning a crime or terror attack by literally watching suspects’ lips for clues. Once it finds someone speaking certain key words or sentences, the system would automatically send an alert message to a central console, mobile phone, or other communications device. Police or security agents could then be dispatched to the scene to question the individual.

Richard Harvey, a senior lecturer in computer vision at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, is embarking on a three-year project that will collect lip-reading data. The information will then be used to create systems that can automatically convert lip motions into readable text.
Harvey says he and his researchers will investigate techniques for recognizing head positions, lip shapes, and their related sounds. “We have several methods for extracting what are called ‘features’ from the lips—sets of numbers that vary with the lip shape, but not with anything else,” he says, adding that the researchers won’t use any specialized cameras or computers in their work. “Our technology is very standard,” he says. “We are using standard speech recognition technology.”

Meteorite : cause seeding of life on earth?

Life on earth was it the cause of meteorite hitting the earth?

while browsing i came across this interesting article so thought of posting it here... Scientists presented evidence today that desert heat, a little water, and meteorite impacts may have been enough to cook up one of the first prerequisites for life: The dominance of “left-handed” amino acids, the building blocks of life on this planet.

Scientists presented evidence today that desert heat, a little water, and meteorite impacts may have been enough to cook up one of the first prerequisites for life: The dominance of “left-handed” amino acids, the building blocks of life on this planet.

In a report at the 235th national meeting of the American Chemical Society, Ronald Breslow, Ph.D., University Professor, Columbia University, and former ACS President, described how our amino acid signature came from outer space.

Chains of amino acids make up the protein found in people, plants, and all other forms of life on Earth. There are two orientations of amino acids, left and right, which mirror each other in the same way your hands do. This is known as “chirality.” In order for life to arise, proteins must contain only one chiral form of amino acids, left or right, Breslow noted.

“If you mix up chirality, a protein’s properties change enormously. Life couldn’t operate with just random mixtures of stuff,” he said.

With the exception of a few right-handed amino acid-based bacteria, left-handed “L-amino acids” dominate on earth. The Columbia University chemistry professor said that amino acids delivered to Earth by meteorite bombardments left us with those left-handed protein units.

“These meteorites were bringing in what I call the ‘seeds of chirality,’” stated Breslow. “If you have a universe that was just the mirror image of the one we know about, then in fact, presumably it would have right-handed amino acids. That’s why I’m only half kidding when I say there is a guy on the other side of the universe with his heart on the right hand side.”

These amino acids “seeds” formed in interstellar space, possibly on asteroids as they careened through space. At the outset, they have equal amounts of left and right-handed amino acids. But as these rocks soar past neutron stars, their light rays trigger the selective destruction of one form of amino acid. The stars emit circularly polarized light—in one direction, its rays are polarized to the right. 180 degrees in the other direction, the star emits left-polarized light.

All earthbound meteors catch an excess of one of the two polarized rays. Breslow said that previous experiments confirmed that circularly polarized light selectively destroys one chiral form of amino acids over the other. The end result is a five to ten percent excess of one form, in this case, L-amino acids. Evidence of this left-handed excess was found on the surfaces of these meteorites, which have crashed into Earth even within the last hundred years, landing in Australia and Tennessee.

Breslow simulated what occurred after the dust settled following a meteor bombardment, when the amino acids on the meteor mixed with the primordial soup. Under “credible prebiotic conditions”— desert-like temperatures and a little bit of water — he exposed amino acid chemical precursors to those amino acids found on meteorites.

Breslow and Columbia chemistry grad student Mindy Levine found that these cosmic amino acids could directly transfer their chirality to simple amino acids found in living things. Thus far, Breslow’s team is the first to demonstrate that this kind of handedness transfer is possible under these conditions.

On the prebiotic Earth, this transfer left a slight excess of left-handed amino acids, Breslow said. His next experiment replicated the chemistry that led to the amplification and eventual dominance of left-handed amino acids. He started with a five percent excess of one form of amino acid in water and dissolved it.

Breslow found that the left and right-handed amino acids would bind together as they crystallized from water. The left-right bound amino acids left the solution as water evaporated, leaving behind increasing amounts of the left-amino acid in solution. Eventually, the amino acid in excess became ubiquitous as it was used selectively by living organisms.

Other theories have been put forth to explain the dominance of L-amino acids. One, for instance, suggests polarized light from neutron stars traveled all the way to earth to “zap” right-handed amino acids directly. “But the evidence that these materials are being formed out there and brought to us on meteorites is overwhelming,” said Breslow.

The steps afterward that led towards the genesis of life are shrouded in mystery. Breslow hopes to shine more light on prebiotic Earth as he turns his attention to nucleic acids, the chemical units of DNA and its more primitive cousin RNA.

“This work is related to the probability that there is life somewhere else,” said Breslow. “Everything that is going on on Earth occurred because the meteorites happened to land here. But they are obviously landing in other places. If there is another planet that has the water and all of the things that are needed for life, you should be able to get the same process rolling.”
so guys what do you think and what may be the factors of life on earth do comment your views here.....

Hydrogen powered Plane

Hydrogen powered Plane successfully tested

Boeing successfully tested first manned hydrogen powered plane in the skies of the spain the small, propeller-driven craft, developed by aviation giant Boeing, made three short flights at an airfield south of Madrid, the company said.It was powered by hydrogen fuel cells, which produce only heat and water as exhaust products a breakthrough that could herald a greener future for the industry.

Three test flights of the two-seater aircraft took place in February and March at an airfield at Ocana, south of Madrid. The plane was modified to include a hybrid battery and fuel cell system developed by UK firm Intelligent Energy.

The fuel cells, which create electricity by combining oxygen and hydrogen, were used to power an electric motor coupled to a propeller. During take-off the plane's batteries were used to provide an additional boost, but whilst in the air, the plane relied entirely on the cells.

Boeing said the plane has a flying time of 45 minutes but tests were limited to around half that time.

Although the test had been successful, the firm said it did not believe fuel cells could be the primary power source for large passenger aircraft.

However, it could be used as a secondary source of energy for large planes, according to Nieves Lapena, the engineer responsible for the test flights, but this may take some time to develop."In my opinion, we are talking about a delay of about twenty years," she said.

Demand for cleaner, safer and more fuel-efficient vehicles and airplanes is growing amid rising costs and concerns over pollution and climate change.

Several auto makers, including General Motors, Nissan and BMW, are working on the development of hydrogen-powered cars.

The International Energy Agency has said that hydrogen and hydrogen fuel cells could play a key role in weaning energy users away from oil, gas and coal which have been blamed for climate change.

Does this really works out can this implemented to manufacture a decent 10 seater commercial plane just we have to wait and see how all this works out?

Camera that Can See naked through Clothes every mans dream

Cloth penetrating camera soon may be the reality! A CCTV camera that can “see” explosives, drugs and weapons hidden under clothing has been invented.

The ThruVision T5000 can spot items underneath clothing at a range of up to 25 meters (80 feet).

The device passively scans for T-rays; naturally occurring radiation in the terahertz frequency of the electromagnetic spectrum.

The camera can image both metallic and non-metallic threat objects, including explosives, liquids, narcotics, weapons, plastics, and ceramics without revealing any body detail. In other words, the pictures will not show details of the naked body underneath.

The high-powered camera can detect hidden objects even when people are moving. The screening is harmless.

The T5000 camera could be deployed in railway stations, shopping centres and other public spaces.

The system can be linked to a computer so that it can automatically scan anyone passing and alert its human operator to anything suspicious.

In developing the T5000 technology, ThruVision collaborated with the European Space Agency and leveraged its research into dying stars.

Molecule-size Machine

Japanese scientists have designed a machine just a few molecules large that mimics how the brain works. It could one day act as a remote control for groups of nano-machines.

The molecular device - just 2 billionths of a meter across - was able to control 8 of the microscopic machines at the same time.

The device can simultaneously carry out 16 times more operations than a normal computer transistor.

“This project is part of a massive brain building project, and this is first success towards this end,” says Dr Anirban Bandyopadhyay, National Institute of Material Science, Tsukuba, Japan.

The machine is made from 17 molecules of the chemical duroquinone. Duroquinone is less than a nanometer, or a billionth of a meter large. This makes it hundreds of times smaller than a wavelength of visible light.

One molecule sits at the center of a ring formed by the remaining 16. All are connected by chemical bonds, known as hydrogen bonds. The entire invention sits on a surface of gold. Its state is controlled and switched by a scanning tunneling microscope (STM).

Using the STM, the researchers can change the central molecule’s state and simultaneously switch the states of the surrounding 16.

The configuration allows 4 billion different possible combinations of outcome.

The 2 nanometre diameter structure was inspired by the parallel communication of glial cells inside a human brain, according to the scientists.

This machine could serve as the foundation of a powerful computer.
