Samsung Slimmest and high capacity SDD (Solid State Drive) on its way..... Recently unveiled its 256GB Solid State Hard drive is one of the largest capacity and highest speed drives to date zDnet Korea reports samsung announced the developmment of its 2.5inch 256GB SSD at the 5th annual samsung Mobile solution in tapei taiwan.
Samsung's new 256GB SSD is also the thinnest drive with the largest capacity to be offered with a SATA II interface. With a sequential read speed of 200 megabytes per second (MB/s) and sequential write speed of 160MB/s, Samsung's MLC-based 2.5-inch 256GB SSD is about 2.4 times faster than a typical HDD. Furthermore, the new 256GB SSD is only 9.5millimeters (mm) thick, and measures 100.3x69.85 mm.
This is a major break through as it addresses many aspects of todays spinning magnetic disk which has a mechanical parts and has a risk of failures and data loss unless data is backed up often and cannot be used in portable media such as iPOD,Hand Cam and digital cameras....

Though SSD have been used in notebooks such as ASus Eee 900 series and Mac Book Air ranging from 20GB to 64GB there was no larger capacity SSD in the market until recently samsung announced it. if samsungs new SDD proves to be robust and available massely we could see more sophisticated notebooks,mp3players and smart phones in the near future
